Home School? Not an Option At All

Home schooling, one of the most controversial topics dealing with education is still being contradicted whether it was necessary or not. Since today many people have argued against home schooling for various reasons, mean while the others see no negative outcomes that arise from it. However parents cannot close their eyes and do not consider what their children may feel. The children may feel so boring if they only stay at home all the day without doing any activities outside especially with their friends. Therefore, no matter what the reasons are, home schooling is undoubtedly not much better than the public school. Or in the other words, public school is much better option than home schooling.
Those who claim that that homeschooling is better than public schools may think that homeschooling has a flexible schedule since parents can arrange their schedule according to the potential of their children. Moreover they also claim that the parents have the academic liberty. They can teach, pursue, and discuss any knowledge with their children without restriction or interference, as by school or public officials. However, it is an unavoidable fact that homeschooling takes a lot of parents’ time and also needs an extraordinary work to make a good curriculum. Parents cannot deny that they have to be around their children to assure the curriculum they made are intensive or not.
And also it is purposed to assure whether their room and the surroundings are in a convenient condition or not. The other things that may be argued by those who prefer homeschooling are the way by putting their children to study at home will not spend a lot of money compared with public schools. Since they see that homeschooling does not need additional money to buy uniform either to get transportation itself. However, it is a fact that in reality homeschooling costs more money than normal public school. The parents have to provide some facilities needed for school by them self and also they have to pay the curriculum and teaching supplies. It will be harder for those who have a low income to maintain their home as a place that is full-prepared with needed facilities since they rarely have extra money to pay books, curriculum and teaching supplies (Grazian, 2008 para.5). Therefore, by considering all the reasons that appear as a risk of homeschooling, it can be seen that homeschooling is not an option way to educate the children.
Since then, we know that homeschooling is disadvantageous for the children. Firstly, the students are not accustomed to having real relationship with their friends. Since they only spend all the times at home, it will make them isolated and lonely. As Khilawala says,’’ Children studying at home may not belong to friends circle, because of which they would feel lonely and isolated’’ (2012, para. 2). Secondly, home-schooled children cannot face any additional challenges outside. They will be nervous when they get involved in a new environment and it will be difficult for them to find friends and make them to be teased so easily since they are not brave enough to argue with others (Khilawala, 2012. para 2). Therefore, we can see it clearly that in fact homeschooling has many disadvantages for the children itself.
Moreover, homeschooling also has disadvantages for parents. Firstly, financial burden is the major problem for parents who apply homeschooling. They have to spend an additional cost on educational aids. And also, applying home school may cause one of the partners; generally the husband forgoes full-time employment out of the home in order to home school. Secondly, another problem of homeschooling problem is the emotional burden. High quality of patience is definitely required. Since the parents may find their children are not diligent enough and need more explanation to make them understand about the lesson. Furthermore, lack of active interaction with other adults may lead to stress. Because it is possible when they have an individual problem, they do not have any time to share it with other adults. Therefore, soon it will become an emotional problem for the parents itself.
To sum up, the parents who try to apply homeschooling for their children must think twice. It is clear that public schools are much better than homeschooling. Because we know that homeschooling have many disadvantages for children and the parents. Therefore, the only conclusion that we can take is public school is much better than homeschooling. There are no any reason that make homeschooling is acceptable. So that, the only way to educate the children is by sending them to public school at all costs.
